Thank you for the honor of serving our Grand Chapter for 2024-2025 as Worthy Grand Matron. I would like to dedicate my year to all the Eastern Star members who came before us. The pioneers, who not only homesteaded our great state, but founded our chapters. The members who brought Eastern Star to God’s Country. Members such as my Great Grand Parents Jason and Maria Geddes. To the sisters and brothers who came after and continued to spread our charitable ways, our sense of community and showed us how these things help us to create and continue to do good in God’s country…women and men like my Grandmother Bessie Johnson, Sarah Love Christianson, Tom & Donna Palmer, and my father Paul Buriak to name a few. These generations all showed us what life could and should be like in God’s Country…it’s not always easy, in fact it’s hard work, but it is always worth it to be charitable, to be a part of a community and to show brotherly love to all you meet. We should always remember, to quote my father…” a stranger is just a friend you haven’t gotten to know yet.”
Heather Malone, WGM
Sisters and Brothers,
It is an astounding honor to serve the Grand Chapter as the Worthy Grand Patron for the 2024-2025 year.
This year is dedicated to my family. I am incredibly fortunate to be able to describe so many people in my life with the word “family”. In addition to my wonderful parents, siblings, and relatives, I have been blessed with a star family who have supported and encouraged me from my very first steps into the labyrinth.
Among the many star sisters who make up my family, there are two who I want to take this opportunity to thank. First, to Heather for being a great role model of how to have fun with each Star trip or meeting and for asking me to be a partner in this journey to the East. Second, to my grandma Donna, my constant cheerleader and connection to this tradition I am so proud to share. I love you, I miss you, I’ll see you again someday.
I’ll leave you with a quote I found during my travels through North Dakota:
“To love someone is to show them their beauty, their worth, and their importance.” ~ Jean Vanier
